The Norwich Phil’s first concert of its 25/26 season is a magnificent double bill of Brahms and Sibelius presented in the glorious setting of Norwich Cathedral.
Ashley Grote conducts the Norwich Philharmonic Chorus and Orchestra in A German Requiem, the largest scale work ever written by Johannes Brahms. Featuring soprano and baritone soloists – Alison Langer and James Newby in our performance – the work is made up of 7 movements and, as the name suggests, sung in German with wonderful writing for choir, orchestra and soloists. The generous acoustic of the cathedral will suit it exceptionally well!
In the first half of the concert, Matthew Andrews conducts the Norwich Phil Orchestra in the single-movement Symphony No. 7 by Jean Sibelius. Dating from 1924, it is a masterpiece of concentrated symphonic form and one of the last works by the famously enigmatic Finnish composer. Enjoy his unique Nordic soundscape echoing through the cathedral’s soaring arches.
Tickets priced from £15 to £35 (£8 to £18 for under 26) are available online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/norwichphil
