Hannah Perowne – violin
Norwich Philharmonic Orchestra
conducted by Matthew Andrews

Bringing warmth to the Norwich winter with a programme of sun-drenched Latin music, we are thrilled to be giving the UK premiere of Fandango, a wonderfully flamboyant violin concerto by Mexican composer Arturo Marquez, with Hannah Perowne as soloist. Completed in 2021, Fandango has all the infectious rhythms and vitality of his famous Danzon No. 2, which wowed the audience at our 2024/25 season finale. Also from Mexico comes the highspirited Huapango by José Moncayo, a well-known party piece of Gustavo Dudamel’s Simon Bolivar Orchestra.

The rest of programme is Old World Hispanic: from France, Emmanuel Chabrier’s España and two works by Maurice Ravel (who grew up just over the border from Spain) – Alborada del Gracioso and Rhapsodie Espagnole. From Spain itself comes the flamenco-inspired suite from
The Three-Cornered Hat by Manuel de Falla. Whatever the weather outside, we guarantee you’ll be feeling the sun on your face and tapping your feet!
