About the Orchestra

Rehearsals usually take place every Tuesday evening (September – March) during school term time at 7.00pm at Norwich High School for Girls, Newmarket Road, Norwich.
Principal Conductor Matthew Andrews conducts all the orchestral concerts, and the Orchestra’s Leader is Christine Rayfield.
The Member’s annual subscription is £100.00 for the 2025 – 26 season, with concessions available on request.

Joining the Orchestra

The Orchestra welcomes new members as and when places become available. We are a friendly orchestra and, while our players have varied musical backgrounds, the standard is high. We take pride in working hard to achieve the best possible results as we tackle some of the most challenging works in the symphonic repertoire.

Although we have no vacancies currently, we are always interested to hear from accomplished orchestral players, and in any case there may be opportunities to come in as an extra or to deputise in rehearsals.

Subscribing members must be over 18 but we occasionally have opportunities for talented younger players to sit in with the orchestra on a temporary basis (with appropriate regard to our Safeguarding Policy). 

New players are welcome to audition for a place in the orchestra if one is available, or you may be asked to come in for a trial.
